I found this recipe in the Big Hershey Cookbook and instantly knew my boys would love it. This recipe makes 24 bars and even though the bars are on the smaller size, it’s fine because they are so dang rich!
Peanut Butter Polka Dot Bars
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
2 cups packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups quick oats
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. kosher salt
1 cup Reese’s Pieces or Reese’s Mini Pieces
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2/3 cup Hershey’s cocoa
1/3 cup granulated sugar
14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, peanut butter, and brown sugar until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla and beat again. In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, baking soda, and salt; add to butter mixture and combine well. Press all but 2 cups of dough into a greased 9 x 13 pan.
Meanwhile, prepare chocolate filling by melting butter in a saucepan over low heat; stir in cocoa, sugar, and condensed milk. Cook, whisking constantly until smooth and thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.
Spread prepared chocolate filling over dough in 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle candy pieces over filling. Crumble reserved dough evenly over the top of rhe filling and candy pieces.
Bake, uncovered, on center rack of oven for 25 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool completely, then cut into bars.
