This trifle was supposed to have chunks of brownies between the layers, but when I recently got ready to prepare the recipe, I realized I had forgotten to BAKE the brownies ahead of time. Yikes! So, in a pinch, I decided to crush up some chocolate sandwich cookies I had on hand. Guess what?! It worked perfectly and my family loved this dessert.
Creamy Chocolate Trifle On The Fly
20 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
2 – 8 oz. containers whipped topping
2 – 3.9 oz. packages chocolate instant pudding
1/2 cup water
14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
4 oz. cream cheese
2 cups milk
1 chocolate bar, such as a Hershey bar
In a large bowl, combine one package pudding with water, sweetened condensed milk, and cream cheese, whisking until smooth; fold in 8 oz. whipped topping. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the remaining package of pudding with milk; whisk until smooth. Place half of the crushed cookies into the bottom of the trifle dish and top with half of the cream cheese mixture, followed by half of the chocolate pudding; repeat layers. Spread whipped topping over the top of the trifle as the last layer, then use a peeler to shave curls of the chocolate bar over the top as garnish. Chill well before serving.
